Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 September 2026
Murmur is a private voice journal. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you stay in control. We do not sell your data, ever.
What we collect
Account details — your email address, and optionally a display name, username and profile photo you choose to add.
Your recordings — the audio you record, its length, the title, section and mood you attach to it, and an automatic text transcript.
Sharing activity — if you send a recording to a friend, we store who it was sent to so it can appear in their app.
Reports and blocks — if you report or block someone, we store that so we can act on it.
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
Only to run the app: storing your journal, transcribing it so it's searchable and readable, delivering recordings you explicitly share, and keeping the community safe.
Transcription
When you keep a recording, the audio is sent to our speech-to-text provider to produce a transcript, then returned to your journal. It is not used to train models and is not retained by the provider beyond the request.
Storage and security
Recordings are stored in private cloud storage. They are readable only through short-lived signed links issued to you, or to a friend you explicitly sent that recording to. Access is enforced at the database level, not just in the app.
Your rights
You can delete any recording at any time from your journal. You can delete your entire account — including every recording, transcript, share and your profile — from You → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Children
Murmur is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
